Grant Funding for Christian Charities and Churches
Which grant is for me?
Our grants programmes
Benefact Trust is one of the largest religious charitable trusts who give grants. We provide large grants and small grants for churches and Christian charities. As grant funders, we offer a range of church grants and grants to Christian charities designed to meet most applicant needs. Whether it's funding for building improvements, community impact projects, or Methodist-specific initiatives, our programmes are tailored to make a meaningful difference across the UK and Ireland.
Community Impact Grants
Community Grants supporting projects that address social challenges, grow congregations, and provide outreach in the UK and Ireland.
Examples: tackling poverty, supporting mental health, addressing homelessness, or engaging young people
Building Improvement Grants
Grants to protect and enhance churches and Christian buildings for future generations in the UK & Ireland.
Examples: making essential repairs, enhancing accessibility, restoring historic features, and installation of solar panels or energy-efficient systems
Methodist Grants
Supporting Methodist building and repair projects in the UK & Ireland (Methodist organisations can also apply to other relevant grant programmes).
Examples: building community hubs, improving accessibility, enhancing spaces for worship and outreach
Roof Alarm Grants
Grant funding for alarms helping churches safeguard their buildings from metal theft in the UK & Ireland.
Examples: installing alarm systems
Other programmes (by invitation only)
Strategic Partnerships
Our strategic grants deliver targeted funding in key areas. We work with expert partners to deliver real impact. Recent examples include nearly £2m for net zero initiatives with the Church of England and Scottish Episcopal Church, and around £2m over four years supporting heritage skills with the Cathedrals’ Workshop Fellowship.
Crisis Response Grants
We are a UK-focused funder; however, in times of major humanitarian overseas crisis we do respond, supporting the most vulnerable. Through these grants we work with experienced and appropriate charities, ensuring the support reaches those who desperately need it.
Heritage Skills for Christian Buildings
We fund traditional skills training, essential for preserving historic churches and cathedrals. Our focus is formal training programmes like apprenticeships that take place in church or cathedral settings and lead to recognised qualifications.
We currently support the Cathedrals’ Workshop Fellowship in England and are open to discussions about similar partnerships, particularly in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
