Podcast | Tackling Global Homelessness with Depaul International's Matthew Carter

Working together to create lasting change
In the tenth episode of our Beyond Funding podcast, we sit down with Matthew Carter OBE, Group CEO of Depaul International, to discuss the growing issue of homelessness on a domestic, local and global scale.

Having spent the past 35 years working in global humanitarian assistance for major charities, Matthew brings extensive experience to Depaul International, a group of charities on a world mission to end homelessness.

In this episode, we explore the root causes of homelessness, the challenges people are experiencing worldwide, and what support services are currently in place. Matthew gives us an insight into Depaul’s innovative strategy and highlights the importance of collaboration, across the sector, in creating long-term solutions.

Depaul International supported over 241,800 people experiencing homelessness in 2023. Behind these numbers, Matthew emphasises Depaul’s commitment to valuing the integrity and worth of every individual. He shares stories that demonstrate the charitable group’s compassion, understanding, and respect for people experiencing homelessness in the UK, Ireland, and all over the world.

1.6bn people in the world don’t have access to adequate housing, and 100m people have no housing at all. They live in extreme poverty. Those statistics aren’t static, they continue to grow at a vast rate.
